I first like to explain how this project took birth and what is the project set
up to do.
This project was born out of necessity to fight Spam messages that were posted
by automated scripts to our
Travel in Asia forum
We were getting bombarded by approximately 500 messages a day with porn, drugs,
tobacco, and other sub industry messages with domain URL's to the offensive
content Websites. We tried deleting the messages but it came to be a losing
proposition, the offenders just persisted with their disregard of our forum and
our domain; hence,
PHSDL ™ was born.
I, Igor Berger the president of
IVB IT
SOLUTIONS have written a simple PHP script that works with our incubator
forum database to harvest Spam domains that are retrieved from the offending
post messages. Each domain is meticulously examined by a human editor to avoid
false positives.
To be able to harvest the domain from offensive post messages I had to create a
number of tools to facilitate the procedure. The tools are: absolute URL parser
to extract offensive domains from Spam messages, database update module to mass
update
PHSDL ™ database with offensive domains, mass deletion module to
delete offensive messages by predefined parameter like user id, user IP address,
offensive domain name. All these tools are for administration use!
For the public I designed a hot Spam domains list and our master database search
module. I also designed a proprietary Spam filter that is made to delete the
Spam posts before they are submitted to forum or blog database.
PHSDL ™ Spam filter v 1.0 is now available to the public to use. If you are a
non commercial entity or a small business with five or less employees you can
use plugin free of charge under our GNU license agreement. That is a binding
contract between PHSDL ™ and the intended user to use the plugin with good
intentions and not to modify or redistribute it. PHSDL ™ is authorized to
terminate the agreement with the said so user at any time without prior notice. HSDL ™ will not be held liable for any damages or malice that occurs to the
user's domain, software or reputation. We do provide the product with warranty
that it will function as intended to prevent the submission of a Spam message to
the owner's forum or domain based on the 20,000 Spam domains in our database.
Our Spam domain database is constantly updated with new Spam violators. The
deletion module is not perfect and there is a tendency that a Spammer of a
owner's forum or blog will use a domain that is not in our database. To give an
example of our incubator forum: from having around 500 Spam post a day it has
dropped to 5 posts a day. We are intent to keep updating our database with Spam
domains to keep it current.
Using this plugin a forum or a blog owner has nothing to lose but only to gain.
Installing this plugin on the owner's property will allow the forum or blog
administrator to comment on their forum or blog instead of wasting time deleting
unwanted Spam.
The Spam deletion plugin is very easy to use and install. Please email us the
request for the plugin
adnim@phsdl.net and
we will send you the 10 line plugin script with a password to our Spam filter
module. The plugin works in away that nothing is modified or changed on the
owner's forum or blog. The message fromthe owner is submitted to PHSDL ™ Spam
filter module and if there is no red flag the message is allowed to be posted to
the owner's forum or blog. If the posting message is flaged with a Spam domain
the poster is redirected to
Project Honeypot Spam Domains Hot List with a warning that the Spammer domain
has been caught in the PHSDL ™. This plugin will work with all forums and boards, like phpBB, vBulliten, SMF,
Wordpress, Typepad, etc.
If you would like to see how the Spam filter works, please take one of the
domains on the Spam list and post it in a message to our
Travel in Asia forum
If you are a major developer or a content provider company, and you are
interested in licensing this technology for commercial usage please contact us
for discussion.
PHSDL ™ v 1.0 is now online and ready to use. Let's work together to eliminate
Internet Spam.
